Our Story

Founded in 1952 by five visionary mothers, Pathlight Inc. emerged as the first organization in Hampden County dedicated to supporting individuals with developmental disabilities. These courageous women envisioned a world where their children could thrive as valued community members, challenging the societal norms of their time. Over seventy years later, Pathlight continues to serve Western Massachusetts and Northern Worcester County, adapting to the evolving needs of individuals with intellectual disabilities and their families.

Impact

Pathlight has pioneered essential services, including the first nursery schools and language development programs for children with developmental disabilities in Springfield and Westfield. The organization also established Massachusetts' first community residence, expanding its offerings to include family-centered programs like Autism Connections and Family Empowerment.
