Our Story
Established in 2018, Parkland CARES Food Pantry was born from the commitment of a dedicated group of individuals determined to combat hunger in their community. With nearly 27% of children and families in Parkland facing food insecurity, the Pantry opened its doors in June 2019, initially serving just 12 families. Visitors were welcomed with the comforting aromas of fresh coffee and pastries, creating a warm environment as they shopped for essential food items.
As the need grew, by December 2019, Parkland CARES had already fed over 100 households. However, the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020 necessitated a swift transition to a Contactless Drive Thru Distribution model, ensuring safety while continuing to serve the community. Families now receive non-perishable food, fresh produce, eggs, and meat during these distributions, held monthly at Kernsville Elementary.
Partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank, Orchard Hills Church, and other local organizations, Parkland CARES remains steadfast in its mission to ensure that no child, family, or individual goes hungry, regardless of the circumstances.
