About Palm Beach Shakespeare Festival

The Palm Beach Shakespeare Festival began in 1988 as a small event in collaboration with the Chamber Theatre of the Palm Beaches and Young Audiences of Palm Beach County. This initiative blossomed into the formation of the Palm Beach Shakespeare Festival, Inc. in January 1990. The inaugural production, MACBETH, took place at Palm Beach Community College, and the festival soon found its home at Carlin Park in Jupiter, where it premiered the beloved Shakespeare by the Sea: A Renaissance Festival and Play-in-the-Park featuring TWELFTH NIGHT. This annual event has become a cherished tradition, attracting up to 10,000 attendees over two weekends each summer.

In partnership with the Palm Beach County Commission and Parks and Recreation, PBSF established the Seabreeze Amphitheatre, which opened in 2008 with a production of A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM. With the exception of one summer during construction and a virtual production, PBSF has consistently provided free, outdoor professional productions of Shakespeare’s works for over thirty years. Beyond Shakespeare by the Sea, PBSF has produced award-winning contemporary and original productions, collaborating with major cultural organizations throughout Palm Beach County.
