Our Story
The Palisades Free Library has been a vital part of the community since 1891, when Mrs. Lydia Lawrence generously donated a building, 663 books, and funds for a caretaker. Over the years, the library has evolved from a private lending library to a public institution, receiving its charter in 1947. With the support of volunteers and donations, it became part of the Orangetown Library District in 1962, allowing it to receive tax funding and expand its services to meet the growing needs of the community.
