Painted Brain

Our Story

Founded in 2005, Painted Brain began as a community-based art initiative at a mental health center in Los Angeles. This project aimed to foster a supportive community around mental illness through creative expression, leading to the launch of a magazine called The Painted Brain. In 2016, it transitioned into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and opened its first drop-in Community Center in 2017, providing a safe haven for individuals seeking connection and support. In 2024, the center relocated to a new space in Westlake, Los Angeles, continuing its mission to uplift and empower.

Impact

In 2023, Painted Brain served over 1000 unique participants through various programs, including Peer Services, Digital Health Literacy, and Mental Health Services.
