Our Story

The Ozaukee County Jail Literacy Program, Inc. was founded in 1992 by former Milwaukee Area Technical College teacher Nina Walker. This pioneering initiative was the first private agency in Wisconsin to offer educational services within a jail setting, focusing on compassionate delivery and community support.

Impact

Since its inception, the OCJLP has served approximately 1,200 students, with 375 achieving their high school GED/HSED certificates. The program has successfully reduced the recidivism rate among graduates to 46%, significantly lower than the national average of 70%.
