Transforming Lives Through Literacy

Founded in 1964 by Lela Tisdale, the Ozark Literacy Council has been a beacon of hope for adults seeking to improve their literacy skills. Inspired by adult literacy programs observed during her travels, Tisdale established this vital organization in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Over the years, countless volunteers have dedicated their time and energy to provide essential literacy and language services, making OLC the oldest and largest literacy council in the state.

Making a Significant Impact

In 2019 alone, the Ozark Literacy Council served 400 adults, helping them achieve personal goals such as securing better employment, enhancing family financial stability, and even obtaining U.S. citizenship. With the support of 80 dedicated volunteer tutors, OLC offers personalized tutoring in reading, writing, and conversational English, empowering individuals to thrive in their communities.
