About Ovarian Awareness of Kentucky

Founded in April 2001 by Jill Doimer and the late Judy Morris, Ovarian Awareness of Kentucky (OAK) emerged from a profound need for support and education regarding ovarian cancer. After Judy's diagnosis and the realization that no support group existed in Louisville, she and Jill connected through the Association of Cancer Online Resources. Together, they envisioned a community where women facing gynecologic cancers could find solace, information, and empowerment.

OAK has grown from its humble beginnings into a vital nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness about ovarian cancer and providing essential resources to women across Kentucky. Through free educational seminars, health fairs, and partnerships with local health professionals, OAK has successfully reached countless women and their families, ensuring they are informed and supported during their cancer journey.

In addition to community outreach, OAK actively engages with medical students at the University of Louisville and the University of Kentucky through the program “Survivors Teaching Students: Saving Women’s Lives.” This initiative not only educates future healthcare providers but also fosters a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by women with gynecologic cancers.
