Our Story
In 1979, James and Margie McCartney recognized a pressing need for alternative education for their children. With few Christian schools available, they took a leap of faith and began offering early education in their home. This humble beginning quickly outgrew their space, leading to a larger facility in Parkville, Missouri, which accommodated up to 120 children. As demand grew, Outreach Christian Education expanded its offerings to include elementary, middle, and high school education.
In 1997, the organization purchased its first building in Avondale, MO, and has since remained debt-free, thanks to God’s provision. Despite challenges, including the economic downturn in 2009, OCE persevered, focusing on early education while keeping the vision for a comprehensive Christian education alive. In 2011, OCE reopened its doors with a small kindergarten class, and by 2019, enrollment had doubled, reaching K-12th grade and homeschool students.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, OCE students thrived, outperforming peers in traditional settings. The 2021-2022 school year saw a significant influx of students as parents sought quality educational alternatives. In August 2022, OCE expanded to a second campus, allowing for continued growth and the fulfillment of its mission.
