Our Story

Outdoor Afro is a national not-for-profit organization that celebrates and inspires Black connections and leadership in nature. Founded by Rue Mapp in 2009, it has evolved from a kitchen table blog into a nationwide movement with over 100 volunteer leaders across 60 cities.

Impact

With a reach of over 60,000 participants annually, Outdoor Afro successfully trains volunteer leaders who guide nature activities, fostering a deeper connection to the outdoors.
