Our Voice Nuestra Voz: Empowering Communities in New Orleans

Founded in 2015, Our Voice Nuestra Voz (OVNV) is dedicated to organizing parents and expanding quality educational access for students in New Orleans. Recognizing the urgent need for a more equitable educational system, OVNV focuses on the Latinx community, engaging parents through personal interactions and building authentic relationships. By listening to the voices of parents and communities, OVNV identifies obstacles and devises solutions to improve educational outcomes.

As OVNV evolves, its mission has broadened to encompass a wider range of issues affecting Black and Brown communities. The organization innovatively disrupts inequities by transforming the role of parents, families, and communities in policy creation and governance. Through direct action organizing, capacity building, and collaboration with stakeholders, OVNV empowers communities to advocate for systemic change.

OVNV is a nation-building organization that anchors ancestry while fostering solidarity among Black and Brown communities in New Orleans. By reconnecting to shared culture and language, OVNV organizes collective action to address critical issues such as education, criminal justice, and immigration.
