Our Village Gardens: A Community-Led Initiative

Founded in 2001, Our Village Gardens emerged from the collective efforts of community leaders in the St. Johns Woods apartments, aiming to combat poverty, isolation, and hunger. With the support of Janus Youth Programs, a community garden was established, significantly reducing crime and enhancing neighborhood safety. The initiative expanded to New Columbia and Tamaracks in 2005, and on July 1, 2021, it became an independent organization. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Our Village Gardens served as a vital resource, ensuring residents had access to essential services and food.

Impact of Our Village Gardens

In 2024, the Seeds of Harmony garden yielded over 1,800 pounds of produce for residents through the Neighbor to Neighbor program, while an additional 250 pounds were sourced from local growers for the Village Market.
