Our Story

Founded in 1853 by Gerrit Smith, the Oswego Public Library was constructed in the grand style of Norman castles and opened its doors to the public in 1857. As America’s oldest public library still in its original building, it has undergone a significant six-million-dollar renovation from 2004 to 2008, continuously serving the community with enhanced services and collections.
