Our Story

Orchard Place began in 1886 when a three-day-old baby was left on a doorstep in Des Moines, Iowa. This act of compassion led to the establishment of the Home for Friendless Children, the first orphanage in the city, which has since evolved into Orchard Place. Today, it continues to serve vulnerable children, focusing on their mental health, substance use, behavioral support, and educational needs.

In 2024, Orchard Place provided care to 6,082 Iowa youth, showcasing its vital role in supporting children's mental health and well-being.
