Operation Shanti, based in San Francisco, California, was established in 2005 with a mission to uplift the poorest and neediest individuals in society. The organization began its journey in India, focusing on families living on the streets of Mysore. Through dedicated volunteer efforts, Operation Shanti provided essential services such as food and medical care, laying the foundation for what would become Project Street.

Transforming Lives

Over the years, Operation Shanti expanded its initiatives to include housing and educational opportunities for children, ensuring they could attend school instead of working or begging on the streets. In 2006 and 2007, several street children were placed in a respected local boarding school, marking a significant step towards their rehabilitation.

In 2008, the organization opened the Karunya Mane shelter, providing a permanent home for street children. Many of those who had previously attended boarding schools chose to live at Karunya Mane, where they receive care and education. This initiative, known as Project Home, allows children to thrive in a supportive environment.

Addressing Immediate Needs

In September 2009, Operation Shanti launched Project Food & More, distributing care packages to destitute families facing medical hardships. This program has been vital in providing immediate relief to those in need.

Future Goals

Looking ahead, Operation Shanti aims to purchase land and construct a larger children's home near the Karunya Mane facility, enabling the organization to assist even more destitute children who deserve a better life.

Every day, Operation Shanti provides essential human services—food, shelter, educational, and medical assistance—because only after their basic needs are met can the destitute begin to help themselves.
