Our Story
In the late 1960s, the Homewood-Brushton community faced significant social disturbances, prompting residents to establish Forever Action Together, Inc. (FAT). Inspired by a successful summer youth program in New York, FAT's Housing Committee adapted this model to address local challenges. With initial funding from various sources, Operation Better Block, Inc. (OBB) was founded in 1970 to revitalize the community and restore its vitality.
OBB's approach is rooted in community organization, emphasizing that the best solutions arise from the residents themselves. This bottom-up strategy empowers individuals to identify their needs and take charge of their community's development. OBB operates on four core values: transparency, integrity, grassroots engagement, and equipping residents to lead their own initiatives.
