Opening Doors
EIN: 42-1490364 · Dubuque, IA
Our Story
The journey of Opening Doors began in 1997 when Deacon Tim LoBianco discovered a homeless woman in Jackson Park. This pivotal moment led to the formation of a nonprofit organization, initiated by Ann Michalski and six Catholic women’s religious communities in Dubuque. Since its incorporation in 1999, Opening Doors has opened multiple facilities, including Maria House in 2000, Teresa Shelter in 2006, and Francis Apartments in 2017, creating a continuum of care for homeless women and children.
Impact
Over the years, Opening Doors has served more than 6,000 homeless women and children, providing essential shelter, support services, and life skills training. More than half of the women who enter the program successfully advance, achieving a higher quality of life.
