Our Story

In 1997, a dedicated group of volunteers and service providers identified a critical need for supportive housing for vulnerable women and families in Washington, DC. Open Arms Housing was established to address chronic homelessness and serious mental illness, offering a low-barrier approach known as "Housing First." This initiative provides essential resources for those who struggle to meet the demands of traditional treatment settings.

Our Impact

Over the past nine years, Open Arms Housing has successfully prevented subsequent homelessness 94% of the time for clients, achieving a remarkable 95% housing stabilization rate at our Dunbar and Owen House project-based sites.
