Our Story
Open Arms for Refugees began in the summer of 2021 when Ossining resident Sofia Bator learned that her cousin, known as F, was trapped in Afghanistan and in grave danger. With the help of local and national leaders, F was rescued from Kabul by US Marines. Inspired by this determination, community members came together to assist F and others, leading to the formation of Ossining for Refugees in October 2021. As support grew, the organization adopted the name Open Arms for Refugees to reflect its expanded mission.
