Empowering Communities Through Development
The Opa-locka Community Development Corporation (OLCDC) was established in November 1980 to combat the high unemployment rates and economic distress in Opa-locka and North Dade County, Florida. Initially focused on community organizing, OLCDC quickly expanded its mission to provide essential community services and develop affordable housing. Over the years, OLCDC has successfully developed and sold 145 single-family homes to low-to-moderate-income first-time homebuyers and partnered with private developers to construct over 2500 rental housing units.
In 2010, OLCDC received a significant $20 million award from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) through the Neighborhood Stabilization Program. This funding has enabled OLCDC to purchase, construct, and repair foreclosed and vacant properties, revitalizing neighborhoods and transforming lives. Today, OLCDC's mission encompasses not only affordable housing but also arts and culture, social services, education, health and wellness, small business development, and financial empowerment, extending its reach beyond Opa-locka to serve the broader North Miami-Dade County community.
