The LGBTQ Center Long Beach
EIN: 95-3523149 · Long Beach, CA
Our Story
The LGBTQ Center Long Beach began in 1977 with living room gatherings focused on the issues affecting the LGBTQ community. Officially incorporated in 1980 as One In Long Beach, Inc., the Center has dedicated over 40 years to providing essential health, social, advocacy, legal, and service programs. In response to the AIDS epidemic, the Center launched Project Ahead in 1984, becoming the first case management service in Southern Los Angeles County for those affected by HIV and AIDS. This initiative created a safe haven for individuals of all sexual orientations, genders, ethnicities, and socioeconomic backgrounds to access vital information, testing, counseling, and healthcare referrals.
Impact
Today, the LGBTQ Center Long Beach serves over 10,000 individuals annually, offering a diverse range of programs including health services, free HIV and STI testing, mental health counseling, and support for youth and older adults. The Center also provides domestic violence services, legal assistance, workshops, and a community library, fostering a supportive environment for all.
