Our Story: A Journey of Love and Rescue

One Dane at a Time was born from a heartfelt mission to address the growing number of Great Danes in need. The inspiration for this nonprofit came from a remarkable dog named Twiga, who was rescued from a life of neglect. Twiga's story began in Mexico, where he was tied up in a backyard without access to clean water. Fortunately, my Godfather, a devoted lover of giant dogs, intervened and offered the owner a choice: surrender Twiga or face animal control. The choice was clear, and Twiga was saved.

Twiga's transformation from an emaciated and unhealthy dog to a beloved companion was nothing short of miraculous. He became a source of comfort during a challenging time in my life, and our bond was instant. This experience ignited a passion for Great Danes and a desire to help others like him. After adopting Twiga, I welcomed another rescue, Lila, into my home, and together they inspired me to foster more Danes in need.

Through fostering, I realized the urgent need for a dedicated rescue organization in Southern California. Many Danes were left without homes, and I felt compelled to take action. Thus, One Dane at a Time was established to provide a breed-specific rescue for Great Danes, focusing on their unique needs and promoting responsible ownership.
