Our Story
Olympia Mutual Aid Partners (OlyMAP) began as a grassroots advocacy group in 2016, founded by local activists Tye Gundel and Renata Rollins. Initially known as Just Housing Olympia (JHO), the group focused on advocating for the rights of unhoused individuals and the decriminalization of homelessness. As the need for support grew, JHO expanded its mission to provide essential services to encampments in Thurston County, including garbage removal, laundry services, and survival supplies.
Transition to a Non-Profit
In response to the increasing number of individuals experiencing homelessness, JHO recognized the necessity for a more sustainable funding model. This led to the formation of Olympia Mutual Aid Partners, which officially became an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit in 2022. OlyMAP now operates several fully-funded programs aimed at supporting the unhoused community in Thurston County.
Impact
OlyMAP is dedicated to ensuring equitable access to safe, just, and warm places to call home for those experiencing unsheltered homelessness.
