The Oklahoma Foundation for the Disabled (OKFD) has been a beacon of hope for adults with disabilities in Oklahoma since its inception in 1961. Founded by the National Council of Jewish Women, the organization emerged from a community survey that highlighted the need for recreational facilities to support individuals in their post-therapy journey. The OKFD focuses on the abilities of its clients, providing a nurturing environment that fosters socialization and recreation.

Initially located at NW 33rd and Classen Blvd, the foundation has grown significantly over the years. In 1967, a generous donation from civic leader Sylvan Goodman allowed the organization to acquire its current facility. The establishment of a 4,000 square foot recreation center in 2010, funded by a $100,000 grant from Impact Oklahoma, marked a significant milestone in the foundation's history. This center is a hub for daily activities, including basketball, exercise classes, and special events.

In 2017, the OKFD raised over $220,000 to create the Health and Wellness Park, featuring trails and playground equipment, providing clients with a beautiful outdoor space to enjoy. This park enhances the quality of life for individuals with disabilities, allowing them to engage with nature and each other.
