Our Story
More than a century ago, on a cold and blustery day in 1907, a young boy stood on the corner of Broad and High selling newspapers. Dressed in torn clothing and struggling to stay warm, he caught the attention of three compassionate men. They brought him inside, sold his papers, and sent him home with more money than he had ever seen. This act of kindness led to the founding of Charity Newsies, which has since provided clothing to almost 800,000 Franklin County children.
Impact
For the 2023-2024 school year, Charity Newsies served over 18,000 children, ensuring they have the clothing necessary for school attendance. Research shows a direct link between lack of clothing and truancy, and the Ohio Department of Education recognizes that poverty-related factors contribute to absenteeism.
