Our Story

Founded in 1997 by civil rights attorney Alphonse Gerhardstein, the Ohio Justice and Policy Center has dedicated over two decades to providing free legal services to Ohioans. Originally known as the Prison Reform Advocacy Center, OJPC evolved to address the urgent need for legal representation among marginalized communities, focusing on the human rights of incarcerated individuals and offering second chance services for those with criminal records.

Our Impact

OJPC is committed to reducing mass incarceration and its detrimental effects in Ohio. By providing free legal assistance and advocating for the rights of incarcerated individuals, OJPC empowers many to navigate the complexities of the criminal legal system, helping them regain their dignity and freedom.
