Our Story

Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry was established in 1978 by a coalition of local churches to address food insecurity in the Ocean Beach community. Initially operating out of the Women’s Club, the organization has evolved to serve over 1,000 individuals and families each month. With a rich history of adapting to community needs, it has transitioned from a rationed service model to a more accessible distribution system.

Loaves and Fishes provides essential food assistance to over 1,000 men, women, and children each month, significantly alleviating hunger in the San Diego area. Recognized as a Gold Certified Nutrition Pantry, it meets high standards for health-focused food distribution.
