Our Story

oaksATL Community Development was established in 2017, emerging from the pressing needs identified by the staff and leadership of Peace Preparatory Academy. The journey began in the winter of 2016 when a staff member faced challenges in finding a bank-qualified home in the English Avenue neighborhood. This experience highlighted the dire lack of affordable housing options. Additionally, a family at Peace Prep endured a month of living with raw sewage outside their apartment, underscoring the urgent need for quality housing solutions.

With a commitment to serve, oaksATL was created to provide affordable housing and foster community growth. The mission is to ensure that every resident has access to dignified living conditions, thereby transforming the English Avenue community.

Impact

Since its inception, oaksATL has successfully placed 180 community residents in safe housing, built 11 new homes, restored 28 houses, and created 61 affordable housing units. The organization has also generated 18 jobs and established 2 community businesses, contributing to the local economy.
