Our Story

Established in 2014, the Oakland Firesafe Council (OFSC) was formed by residents of Oakland, California, who survived the devastating 1991 Oakland Firestorm. This nonprofit organization aims to reduce wildfire risks in Oakland and Alameda County through education, advocacy, and community engagement. Evolving from a previous nonprofit, OFSC's strategic direction is informed by statewide best practices in wildfire management, focusing on community outreach and preparedness programs.
