Our Story

Established in 1989, the Oak Park Lesbian and Gay Association (OPALGA+) stands as one of the largest LGBTQ+ membership organizations in Illinois. With a diverse membership spanning Chicago’s near-west suburbs and beyond, OPALGA+ fosters a welcoming environment for all through social activities, civic engagement, and community activism.

Impact

OPALGA+ has made significant strides in supporting the LGBTQIA+ community, providing over $170,000 in scholarships to help students pursue higher education, including $40,000 in 2023 alone. The organization has also played a crucial role in amending Oak Park’s Human Rights Ordinance to prevent discrimination in employment and housing.
