Our Story

The NWI Food Council is a grassroots organization that emerged from a Local Food Summit in April 2015. Launched in December 2015, it serves all of Northwest Indiana, aiming to create a thriving and regenerative food system for everyone. With a diverse board representing various sectors of the local food system, the Council is dedicated to addressing local food issues and fostering community engagement.

Our Impact

In 2023, the NWI Food Council distributed over $400,000 worth of locally grown food, supported food access initiatives, and expanded partnerships statewide. The organization has significantly grown, hiring its first staff in 2022 and increasing its annual budget by 45% in 2023.
