Our Story

Founded in 2017 by a passionate group of Latino friends in Las Cruces, New Mexico, Nuestra Tierra Conservation Project emerged from a desire to engage local communities in conservation efforts. Frustrated by the lack of representation in outdoor spaces, they organized events like cookouts and river rafting trips to foster involvement. By 2019, Nuestra Tierra achieved 501(c)(3) status, launching initiatives such as the New Mexico Outdoor Equity Fund and the national Outdoor F.U.T.U.R.E Initiative, while supporting significant national policies like the Biden-Harris 30x30 and Justice 40 initiatives.

Our Impact

Nuestra Tierra believes that community building is essential for effective conservation. Projects like the restoration of the La Mancha wetlands and coalitions for conserving landmarks such as Castner Range National Monument showcase how local leadership leads to sustainable outcomes, intertwining conservation with community empowerment.
