In March 1986, a dedicated group in Norwalk, CT, envisioned a sister-city connection with Nagarote, Nicaragua. This initiative aimed to foster understanding and friendship between U.S. citizens and Nicaraguans, transcending the political tensions of the time. The partnership was formalized in 2015 when the mayors of both cities signed a Memorandum of Understanding, officially linking Norwalk and Nagarote as members of Sister Cities International.
Over the past 38 years, the Norwalk/Nagarote Sister City Project has transformed the lives of over 100 children and adolescents by providing them with essential marketable skills through after-school programs. These initiatives have successfully reduced gang involvement and teen pregnancies in the communities we serve.
