Northwoods Humane Society

Our Story

Incorporated in 1975, Northwoods Humane Society was established by a dedicated group of citizens in Chisago County who were passionate about the welfare of homeless animals. For over three decades, volunteers provided care for countless stray and abandoned animals in their homes until they could find permanent loving homes. As the community grew, the need for a dedicated animal care and adoption facility became clear.

In 1998, a generous donation of five acres of land allowed for the construction of a new facility, which opened its doors in 2000. Since then, Northwoods Humane Society has provided shelter and care for thousands of kittens, cats, puppies, and dogs in need of love and comfort.
