Established in the late 1960s by a group of 38 attorneys in Erie County, NWLS operates under the belief that everyone deserves equal justice under the law. Serving ten counties in northwestern Pennsylvania, the organization focuses on critical civil legal matters such as public benefits, family law, housing, healthcare, education, and employment.

In the fiscal year 2022-2023, NWLS made a significant impact by serving 6,998 residents and closing 3,127 cases, securing over $1.2 million in monetary awards for clients. With more than 42,000 hours dedicated to legal aid, NWLS exemplifies a strong commitment to improving the lives of low-income individuals and families.
