About Northwest Pilot Project

Northwest Pilot Project (NWPP) has been a beacon of hope for very low-income seniors in Multnomah County since 1969. Founded by Episcopal priest Peter Paulson, this organization began as an all-volunteer effort to address the urgent needs of older adults at risk of losing their independence. Initially focused on the downtown Portland area, NWPP pioneered essential programs such as Oregon's first Meals-on-Wheels service and advocated for improved accessibility in public transportation for seniors and disabled individuals.

Impact on the Community

Each year, NWPP stabilizes the housing of approximately 600 seniors, with an impressive 88% of those housed remaining in their homes after 12 months. Over the past 50 years, the organization has provided housing placement, transportation, and support to more than 40,000 older adults, significantly enhancing the quality of life for low-income seniors in the community.
