Our Story

The Northwest Bronx Community and Clergy Coalition was founded in 1974 to combat the crisis of arson and abandonment in the Bronx. Formed by clergy, students, and community members, this coalition has worked tirelessly to hold decision-makers accountable and foster community-led solutions. Over the years, it has evolved to focus on racial justice and economic democracy, building a robust network of tenant associations.

Impact

NWBCCC has successfully halted arson-for-profit schemes and passed the Community Reinvestment Act, establishing non-profit housing corporations that safeguard and expand affordable housing. Landmark legislation for tenant protections and initiatives for economic development have also been achieved.
