Our Story
In July 2018, a dedicated group of 30 individuals recognized the urgent need for harm reduction services in Butte County. This initiative began with opioid overdose response training and the distribution of free Naloxone (Narcan) by October 2018. The coalition has since expanded its services to include syringe disposal, community syringe litter cleanup, and street outreach, responding to the needs of the community.
Through collaboration with local law enforcement, behavioral health providers, and community members, NVHRC has trained over 800 individuals to effectively respond to opioid overdoses. The coalition has successfully distributed over 2,000 doses of Naloxone, saving lives across diverse demographics. With over 7,000 syringes diverted from improper disposal, NVHRC is making a significant impact on public health and safety.
As NVHRC celebrates its first anniversary, it proudly submits its application to become a Certified Syringe Exchange with the California Department of Public Health, further solidifying its commitment to evidence-based harm reduction strategies.
