About Northern Prairie Performing Arts

Since 1946, Fargo Moorhead Community Theatre (FMCT) has been a cornerstone of the Fargo-Moorhead-West Fargo area, providing diverse performance and education opportunities. As the longest-running community arts organization in the Red River Valley Region of Minnesota and North Dakota, FMCT has a rich history of engaging the community through the arts. Originally established as the Emma K. Herbst Playhouse in 1967, FMCT has evolved significantly over the decades. After facing challenges with its previous venue, including the demolition of the old building in November 2022, FMCT has successfully transitioned to a new space in the iconic Hjemkomst Center in downtown Moorhead, MN, where productions are held year-round.

Impact of FMCT

FMCT produces an average of ten productions annually, reaching over 40,000 patrons each year. The organization fosters an artistic community for local theatre artists, who volunteer their time and talents out of love for the craft. Additionally, FMCT's education programming serves students of all ages, offering classes and camps that inspire creativity and confidence.
