Our Story

The Northern Jaguar Project was founded in the late 1990s by jaguar expert Carlos López González and biologist David Brown. Recognizing the urgent need to protect the northernmost population of jaguars in Sonora, Mexico, they engaged local ranchers and conducted vital research to safeguard the jaguar's habitat.

Impact

Since its inception, NJP has protected over 180,000 acres of habitat and recorded 16 jaguars in 2023. Collaborating with 19 ranches, NJP promotes coexistence with wildlife, enhancing the ecological health of the region.
