Our Story

Northeast New Jersey Legal Services (NNJLS) was established in 1968 to provide free, high-quality legal representation and advice in civil law matters to low-to-moderate income individuals throughout Bergen, Hudson, and Passaic Counties. NNJLS is dedicated to ensuring equal access to justice for low-income residents, believing that no one should be denied the opportunity to have their day in court simply because they cannot afford a lawyer.

Each year, NNJLS helps nearly 11,000 people solve legal issues related to evictions, domestic violence, immigration, and more. This lifesaving representation and advocacy protect survivors of domestic violence, prevent evictions, and increase access to public benefits.
