Our Story

The Northeast Council of Teachers of Japanese (NECTJ) was established in 1992 to enhance the teaching of the Japanese language at the pre-collegiate level. Originally named the Northeast Association of Secondary Teachers of Japanese, NECTJ has expanded its focus to include elementary education and support for children of Japanese heritage. This organization provides a vital platform for educators to share effective classroom practices and resources.

Impact

NECTJ plays a crucial role in promoting Japanese language education across the northeastern United States, fostering cultural understanding and relationships between America and Japan through its diverse programs and workshops.
