Our Story

North Star Reach was founded to offer life-changing camp experiences for children facing serious health challenges and their families, completely free of charge. Emerging from the Fresh Air Camp, which began in 1921, the organization evolved in the 1970s to focus on children with disabilities. In 2005, founder Doug Armstrong recognized the urgent need for a dedicated camp and secured a long-term lease from the University of Michigan in 2011.
