North East Wake Backpack Buddies

Our Story

North East Wake Backpack Buddies began in 2006 as a compassionate youth mission at Rolesville Baptist Church. Inspired by witnessing a child struggling to afford a meal, Jeff Pethel, the youth minister, dedicated himself to addressing hunger in the community. By September 2011, the mission evolved into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, committed to serving children in need.

Our Impact

Every weekend, North East Wake Backpack Buddies provides food bags to children identified as ‘food insecure’ by school staff. Each bag contains kid-friendly meals and snacks, ensuring that approximately 2,000 bags are distributed monthly to schools in the region.
