Our Story

Founded in 1990, the North Coast Cultural Association has been a beacon of creativity in Chesterton, Indiana. Originally located in the historic St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the organization faced a significant challenge when a devastating fire in 1998 left it homeless. After a year of recovery and reorganization, NCCA was gifted a small building at 125 N. Fourth St., which has since transformed into the intimate Fourth Street Theater. This 50-seat venue has become a cherished performance space for artists across Northwest Indiana.

Since opening its doors in 1999, the Fourth Street Theater has produced over 65 award-winning plays and musicals, showcasing local talent and fostering a love for the arts. The annual 10 Minute Play Festival, celebrating its 10-year anniversary in 2024, highlights the creativity of playwrights, directors, and actors from the region and beyond.

Impact

For over 22 years, the North Coast Cultural Association has enriched the cultural landscape of Chesterton through the performing arts. With over 204 nominations and 70 awards from the Northwest Indiana Excellence in Theatre Foundation, NCCA has established itself as a leader in theatrical excellence. The annual 10 Minute Play Festival not only celebrates local talent but also provides invaluable opportunities for emerging artists to showcase their work.
