Our Story

The North Carolina Arboretum, established in 1986, is a vibrant 324.9-acre space nestled in the Bent Creek watershed of Buncombe County. With roots tracing back to Native American heritage, the Arboretum was brought to life by local civic leaders and garden enthusiasts, supported by the North Carolina General Assembly. Its mission is to cultivate connections between people and plants through education, conservation, and community engagement.

Annually, the Arboretum serves over 18,000 children and 6,000 adults, fostering a deeper understanding of the environment and promoting community involvement.
