Our Story

The North American Bluebird Society was founded in 1978 by Dr. Lawrence Zeleny to address the alarming decline of bluebird populations. After facing challenges in garnering support from major conservation organizations, NABS emerged as a beacon for bluebird preservation. With members spanning the United States, Canada, and Bermuda, the society focuses on education, research, and grassroots conservation efforts.

Our Impact

NABS has raised significant awareness about the plight of bluebirds, distributing over one million educational brochures titled 'Where Have All the Bluebirds Gone?'. Additionally, the organization has awarded approximately $100,000 in research grants to further studies on bluebirds and other cavity-nesting birds.
