Our Story

The No Kill Advocacy Center was founded in 2004 by Nathan J. Winograd, transforming Tompkins County, New York, into the first No Kill community in America. This pioneering effort has inspired the creation of hundreds of No Kill communities nationwide through legislation, litigation, and education.

Our Impact

Since its inception, the No Kill Advocacy Center has achieved a remarkable 90% reduction in the killing of dogs and cats in American pounds. The annual number of euthanized pets has plummeted from approximately five million to just one million, marking a monumental success in the animal protection movement.
