Our Story

Nicholas House opened its doors in 1982, initiated by compassionate members of St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Atlanta, GA. Recognizing the urgent need for a shelter that accommodates families experiencing homelessness for more than just a night, they began offering their Sunday school rooms to families in need. Over the years, Nicholas House has evolved into a comprehensive support system, serving around 250 homeless family members every night and nearly 400 parents and children annually.

Impact

Since its founding, Nicholas House has served over 13,000 homeless family members. In the last fiscal year, an impressive 97% of residents transitioned into permanent housing after leaving the Boulevard Shelter. Additionally, the organization provided an average of $2,000 in rental assistance to each family in its Housing Stability program, helping 168 individuals avoid eviction.
