Our Story

NextUp RVA, originally known as Middle School Renaissance 2020, was established in 2013 by a coalition of community and business leaders in collaboration with Richmond Public Schools. The initiative was born from a bold question: What would it take to put more RPS teens on a path to success? By creating a cohesive out-of-school time system, NextUp replaced fragmented services with a unified approach, engaging youth in high-quality learning opportunities and academic support through afterschool, summer, and weekend programs.

Impact

Structured Out-of-School Time (OST) programs significantly enhance the lives of students and their families. Research shows that quality OST programs lead to improved school attendance, behavior, and academic performance. They provide a safe environment for youth to receive academic support while developing essential social skills and interests.
